New Railpasses and 18,000 More Point-to-Point Train Tickets for 2007 From Rail Europe

WHITE PLAINS, NY -- (MARKET WIRE) -- January 4, 2007 -- Whether your dreams for a European vacation this year involve roaming around or just traveling between two great spots, Rail Europe is introducing several new railpasses and thousands of new point-to-point train tickets in 2007. Rail Europe is the leading North American distributor of European train travel, serving more than 1 million travelers annually.

New passes

For the first time, a single-country railpass is now available for Croatia (Eurail Croatia Pass) and one for the Republic of Ireland (Eurail Ireland Pass). The Eurail Croatia Pass is available for 3-8 days of 1st or 2nd class rail travel within a 1-month timeframe, with prices* starting at $111US/$127 CAD. The Eurail Ireland Pass is available in 2nd class for 5 days of travel within one month for $190 US/$218 CAD. Youth versions of both passes are available for a lower price for travelers under 26. Eurail Croatia Pass offers a discounted Saver version for 2 or more people traveling together while Eurail Ireland Pass has a discounted Senior version for travelers 60 and over.

Rail Europe also offers 18 other single-country passes, including several previously sold by the company which this year have been re-named Eurail National Passes (Italy, Portugal, Benelux).

Also new for 2007 are two-country railpasses for Austria & Hungary and Italy & Spain (ferries connecting Italy and Spain are discounted with the Eurail Italy-Spain Pass). Both passes are available for 4-10 days of rail travel within a 2-month period and both offer discounted youth passes for those under 26. The Eurail Austria-Hungary Pass is for 1st class travel (except the Youth Pass, which is for 2nd class) and starts at $230 US/$263 CAD. The Eurail Italy-Spain Pass is available for 1st or 2nd class travel, starting at $295 US/$337 CAD. Both passes are available as Saverpasses.

More railpasses

Rail Europe sells the Eurail brand of railpasses, as well as many others, such as the France Railpass, Swiss Pass, BritRail Pass, European East Pass, Balkan Flexipass. There are passes for one, two, three or more countries, including the well-known 18-country Eurailpass, which this year has been renamed the Eurail Global Pass.

Favorite passes and prices

For youth travelers the most popular pass sold by Rail Europe is the Eurail Global Pass Youth, which this year costs approximately 3% more than last year, starting at $425 US/$485 CAD. The favorite for adults (over 26) is the 3-country, 5-day Eurail Select Pass Saver, costing only 2% more than last year, starting at $352 US/$402 CAD. The Eurail Select Pass is customizable -- the traveler can choose 3, 4 or 5 countries connected by train or ferry from a list of 23. The "Saver" type of pass is used for 2 or more people traveling together -- usually couples or small groups of friends/family members, with an average discount of 15% over the cost of an individual pass.

18,000 new point-to-point tickets

For travelers whose rail travel plans are restricted to just two cities or towns, Rail Europe has added 18,000 new routes in France, Germany, Switzerland and other countries. To check on fares and schedules, log on to (U.S.) or (Canada). In 2006, the company implemented a real-time connection to European database of fares and schedules unequalled by any other North American distributor. The website was also revamped with virtual tours, and the ticket pricing structure was simplified.

"Our goal is to give North Americans the widest selection of European rail travel products so that people can get the pass or ticket that best suits their plans and their budget," says Fabrice Morel, President and CEO of Rail Europe. "In addition to more choices, travelers to Europe this year will enjoy faster travel times -- which we will soon be announcing."

Special discounts for groups of 10 or more

Rail Europe also provides special discounts for groups of 10 or more people traveling together by rail through the company's Group Rail department. For information for group travel, see the Group Travel page on the Rail Europe website or call 800-462-2577.
