New Research Links Strategic Use of WAN Acceleration Technologies to Improved User Satisfaction

Best-in-Class WAN Managers Spent Less Than One Third That of Their Peers and Enjoyed More Than Double the Number of Satisfied Network End-Users

BOSTON, MA--(Marketwire - February 10, 2011) - In a break with tradition, top performing WAN managers address poor application performance with optimization and acceleration, rather than simply throwing more hardware and bandwidth at the problem. As the demands of bandwidth-hungry applications and a growing remote workforce place increasing demands on data and communications networks, the Best-in-Class are focused on increasing utilization of existing resources through visibility and acceleration technologies. In a new report, 2011 WAN Acceleration State of the Market, announced today by Aberdeen Group, a Harte-Hanks Company (NYSE: HHS), top performing organizations share the following characteristics:

  • 66% prioritize business-critical application traffic over other types of network traffic

  • 50% use compression and application-specific optimizations

  • 82% have visibility into network activity and performance

Aberdeen's senior research analyst, Russ Klein, notes, "There is often a perception that achieving great success, especially when it comes to network infrastructure projects, usually correlates with spending lots of money and having the resources of a very large company at hand. However, our survey of more than 200 enterprise network managers shows a much different picture, with the Best-in-Class organizations spending much less per headcount and as a percentage of total telecom cost. In the next year, over 30% of all respondents are planning to boost their use of APIs for network integration and also increase the centralization of WAN optimization and acceleration. These steps will allow organizations to improve the effectiveness of their WAN acceleration solutions and also increase their ability to expand the benefits of optimization to emerging technology areas such as IP-based communications and mobile devices."
