New RiverStage at Penn's Landing Debuts for the 2010 Summer Season

State-of-the-Art Lighting and Audio Systems Brings a New Level to Concerts on the Waterfront

PHILADELPHIA, PA--(Marketwire - May 13, 2010) -  The new RiverStage at Penn's Landing will take concerts on the waterfront to a whole new level. With nearly 2,000 square feet of performance space (and 100% handicap-accessible), the stage can accommodate the Philadelphia Orchestra, which is scheduled to make its RiverStage debut this season. The stage was funded entirely by the Delaware River Waterfront Corporation, and will make its debut in time to host the full summer season of activities on Penn's Landing.

The RiverStage took over 5000 working hours to design, engineer, build and install, and it was a true region-wide effort. Stage design and project management was handled by Fuse Management LLC, an event and theatrical management company based in Philadelphia. The construction of the stage and front-of-house elements was by Proof Productions Inc. (PPI) of Glassboro, NJ. State-of-the-art audio and lighting systems were designed by Bauder Audio of Horsham and Light Action, Inc, of New Castle, Delaware respectively. Graphics for the stage were created by Octo Design Group of Philadelphia.

Fuse designed the stage specifically to work with all of the different types of events that take place on Penn's Landing. The designers paid close attention to details, creating an experience that would please the most discriminating concert patron. Fuse also paid attention to architectural details, like including a curved stage apron that echoes the existing architectural design of the Great Plaza where it is located.

PPI specializes in custom fabrication for the entertainment industry. The company has valuable experience working with outdoor venues such as the Great Plaza. PPI's staff has created everything from theatrical scenery and props to large outdoor stages.

Bauder Audio Systems, Inc (BAS) created a sound design that is sure to thrill. BAS was founded in 1980 and has grown to include a large selection of audio and backline equipment. In addition to maintaining a comprehensive inventory, BAS has a full service staff of production, audio and backline technicians.

Light Action, in conjunction with Staging Dimensions and Applied Electronics, was selected to provide the Great Plaza custom concert stage, roof, and lighting systems. The three companies worked together to engineer, manufacture, and install the project. The arched roof was engineered to be both aesthetically pleasing and to meet the structural demands of video, sound and lighting. The lighting system incorporates 48 ETC Source 4 Par fixtures with Applied Electronics dimming and LSC control.

The RiverStage at Penn's Landing is as impressive visually as it is technically. At over 35 feet tall and 50 feet wide, the stature of William Penn could easily lie onstage, and if one stacked all of the steel and aluminum up it would be taller than the Ben Franklin Bridge! If all of its power, lighting and audio cables were laid end-to-end, they'd stretch from center stage to City Hall and back again. The whole thing is held down by over 200,000 pounds of ballast.

Public Programming at Penn's Landing would not be possible without the continued support of corporate partners such as PECO, Verizon, Pennsylvania Lottery, Live Nation, the Philadelphia Coca-Cola Bottling Company and the Greater Philadelphia Tourism Marketing Corporation, all of whom are committed to serving the Greater Philadelphia community.

The 2010 Summer Program of Free Events at Penn's Landing is funded and produced by the Delaware River Waterfront Corporation (DRWC). All events produced by DRWC are FREE to the public on the Great Plaza, the heart of Penn's Landing, Philadelphia's premier Delaware River waterfront entertainment destination. The DRWC is a nonprofit corporation created in January 2009 exclusively for the benefit of the City of Philadelphia and its citizens. The fundamental purpose of DRWC is to design, develop and manage the central Delaware River waterfront in Philadelphia. DRWC intends to transform the waterfront into a vibrant destination location for recreational, cultural, and commercial activities for the residents and visitors of Philadelphia.
