New Semaphore Case Studies Describe SCADA Solutions for Railroad, Energy Management and Water & Wastewater Treatment

NASHUA, NH--(Marketwire - September 17, 2008) - Now available from Semaphore are three case studies, which describe recent installations of its T-BOX line of SCADA system products in railroad transportation, energy management and water and wastewater treatment.

Each case study shows how a T-BOX RTU (remote terminal unit) has fulfilled information reporting requirements, decreased operating costs and significantly improved process operations.

For the Evansville Water and Sewer Utility (EWSU), InGen, a Semaphore authorized solutions provider, has installed a water and wastewater treatment system that uses a T-BOX RTU to cost effectively meet EPA reporting requirements for combined sewage overflow (CSO). T-BOX RTU products are used for controls throughout the EWSU system as part of InGen's complete SCADA solution that ranges from process monitoring and automation through IT. To download the new Semaphore water and wastewater treatment case study entitled, "Automation and Information Technology Updates at the City of Evansville Water and Sewer Utility (EWSU)," visit

A second case describes how small businesses are using the T-BOX RTU to save up to 20% on energy costs. Energy management system applications in T-BOX supervise operations during off-hours, opening and closing times, and peak times to minimize energy use. T-BOX also efficiently provides information on all operations to users, anywhere, anytime, and contributes to continuous improvement. A third case study focuses on a railroad SCADA transportation application. Railway switchgear systems are characterized by high electrical interference and require equipment that is suitable for outdoor installation. In this application, a T-BOX MS RTU was programmed by the end customer using Microsoft Automation and uses an integral web server for local diagnostics. T-BOX is the first, IP-based telemetry solution that enables the complete integration of SCADA, control and communications functionality in one rugged package. It leverages easy-to-use Web technologies and inexpensive public networks for decentralized monitoring and control systems. T-BOX products offer up to 50% less total installed cost per point versus traditional SCADA/ PLC systems and permit greater organizational access to data through automated reporting and browser software.

Semaphore's T-BOX RTU products are ideal for a broad range of monitoring and control applications in the broadcast, infrastructure management, oil & gas, power, transportation and water treatment and distribution industries.
