New Survey Digs into Thanksgiving Dinner, Travel Trends

LOS ANGELES, CA--(Marketwired - Nov 15, 2016) - Swagbucks, the web's leading rewards program, today released the findings from its Thanksgiving 2016 Survey. Conducted with over 20,000 respondents, the survey reveals how consumers are preparing for the holiday, uncovers travel and shopping trends, and much more.

Planes, trains, and automobiles. For Turkey Day, Swagbucks' findings reveal that 73% of travelers are traveling four hours or less to get to their destination and many of them are hitting the road. Most (81%) will travel by car, while only 16% will fly.

Looking to avoid the crowds when planning your trip? Plan to travel early! According to the findings, the busiest days for travel are between Monday and Wednesday the week of Thanksgiving. 58% of travelers will leave during this time.

Once you've made it to your destination, the feast begins. Survey findings show that the bird is the word. 64% of people claim turkey reigns supreme over ham at the dinner table, which was preferred by only 6%. However, 29% of respondents say, "Why choose?" They will chow down on both turkey and ham. For the turkey lovers, the reigning turkey brand is Butterball, preferred by 87%. But purchase yours early to get the best bird! 73% of people will purchase their turkeys 1-2 weeks out.

"Regardless of how you're traveling during one of the busiest times for travel, we recommend hitting the road or the skies the weekend prior to the holiday, if not earlier. With many travelers staying close to home and others still deciding whether they will make the trek, we expect that the only place busier than the roads will be the supermarkets as our members have expressed that they will buy their birds early!" said Sarah Aibel, VP of Marketing at Swagbucks.
