New Survey From Jacent Technologies Shows Majority of People Planning on Ordering Takeout During Holiday Season but Restaurants Shouldn't Count on Brand Loyalty

As the Holiday Shopping Season Hits Full Swing, Survey Measures Consumer Plans for Ordering Takeout Food During the Holidays, and Highlights Fickle Behavior and Lack of Holiday Cheer When It Comes to Long Wait Times

SANTA CLARA, CA -- (MARKET WIRE) -- December 4, 2006 -- Jacent Technologies, the leading supplier of ordering solutions for the restaurant and hospitality industries, today announced the results of its Holiday Takeout Survey. The survey was designed to gauge people's attitudes towards ordering takeout during the holiday season, especially in regards to wait time and the time saving factors of ordering food-to-go.

The results, based on responses from more than 300 consumers across the United States, found a significant increase from 2005 in the number of people planning to order takeout during the week of Christmas through New Years. The survey findings also indicated that long wait times, more than one to two minutes, will send the majority of the holiday shoppers to order from a competitor.

Survey findings include:

-- Fifty-six percent (56%) of respondents plan to order takeout 1-2
nights per week during the holiday season, with more than thirteen percent
(13%) ordering out 3-5 nights per week.
-- Thirteen percent (13%) more people plan to order takeout this year
during the week between Christmas and New Year's Day than in 2005.
-- Seventy-eight percent (78%) of respondents have in the past opted to
not place an order because they had to wait on hold for too long. Sixty-
nine (69%) of these respondents have then called a competitor.
-- Sixty-seven percent (67%) say that they are only sometimes or rarely
asked about the specials when ordering takeout.
-- Thirty-six percent (36%) of diners are never told the specials of the
day when ordering, and only thirty-one percent (31%) are sometimes told the
-- Sixty-nine percent (69%) of respondents indicated they will act on the
information about specials, at least some of the time.

"We are hearing from more and more restaurants that decreasing the amount of time it takes for customers to order by phone is critical to their business and to building brand loyalty, so these results were not surprising to us," said Trevor Stout, CEO of Jacent Technologies. "What is surprising to us is the number of consumers that order takeout on a regular basis during the holiday season, and how quickly they will turn to another restaurant if they are put on hold. There is definitely an upward trend in takeout ordering and restaurants can play a major role in easing the holiday stress load by adding faster ordering and putting more automated processes in place to turn every call into an order."
