New TASER Technology Available to Protect Wildlife

TASER Unveils Wildlife Control Technology at SHOT Show 2011

SCOTTSDALE, AZ and LAS VEGAS, NV--(Marketwire - January 18, 2011) - TASER International, Inc. (NASDAQ: TASR), a global provider of safety technologies that prevent conflict and protect life, announces the availability of a new solution for wildlife managers to protect wildlife with the TASER® Wildlife™ Electronic Control Device (ECD). While TASER is widely known for providing less lethal capabilities and self-defense technology to law enforcement, military and consumers, the Company has, in cooperation with wildlife researchers, developed a new tool to assist wildlife managers in the mitigation of human-animal conflict. The TASER Wildlife ECD will be available soon and a prototype will be on display at SHOT Show that runs from January 18-21 in Las Vegas, NV at the Sands Convention Center booth 10564.

Published research has shown that wildlife managers sometimes need to use tools to modify animal behavior to avoid dangerous human animal conflicts and the loss of animal life. Wildlife professionals use some of the same tools as law enforcement such as chemical, visual, and acoustic repellents, distraction devices, and various projectiles, some of which are not very effective and others can cause significant injury and even death. TASER has taken its most advanced law enforcement TASER® X3™ ECD after consultation with wildlife managers to produce a new device specific for large animal use to supplement their existing tool options. TASER is also developing research and training programs in cooperation with wildlife researchers to support the safe use of ECDs for wildlife control.

"Just as our TASER technology is a safer and more effective option to stop dangerous individuals, the TASER Wildlife ECD is an extension of TASER's technology to save animal lives. It is designed to incapacitate larger animals more effectively and safer than current animal control tools," said Rick Smith, CEO and cofounder of TASER International. "We are in the business of protecting lives -- and the TASER Wildlife ECD will help wildlife professionals protect wildlife by offering another tool to help resolve human-animal conflicts."

What is the TASER Wildlife ECD?

The TASER Wildlife ECD is optimized for wildlife professionals and has the following features:

  • Three-shot, semi-automatic TASER® ECD specifically developed, designed and tested to safely incapacitate large animals
  • Enhanced safety characteristics with Pulse Calibration System (PCS) that constantly monitors and calibrates electrical output to deliver a Precision Shaped Pulse™ that provides more consistent effects on the target and improved safety characteristics
  • Environmentally hardened system survives sea spray, rain, dust, electrostatic discharge and even short-term water submersion
  • Enhanced sensors and Trilogy™ Log record TASER discharge characteristics to discern connection to target and actual duration of stimulation
