A new tourist and recreational attraction gets the green light in Gaspesie: The Route des Belvederes

The Government of Canada supports the project of Corporation de developpement economique de Matapedia-Les Plateaux

MATAPEDIA, QUEBEC--(Marketwired - Sept. 15, 2016) - Canada Economic Development for Quebec Regions (CED)

The Route des Belvédères is a major tourism project for the Matapédia-Les Plateaux region. It is expected to attract and retain a large amount of tourists, generate significant economic benefits for local businesses and create around 100 jobs for the middle class.

Acting on behalf of the Honourable Navdeep Bains, Minister of Innovation, Science and Economic Development and Minister responsible for CED, Rémi Massé, Member of Parliament for Avignon-La Mitis-Matane-Matapédia, announced that Corporation de développement économique Matapédia-Les Plateaux (CDE-MLP) has been granted $972,000 in financial assistance to implement the Route des Belvédères.

The project was developed by the CDE-MLP, in collaboration with the area's municipalities, with the goal to expand and enhance the organization's capital activities in order to start building the lookouts on the Route des Belvédères. Tourists will enjoy the panoramic vistas overlooking the Matapédia and Restigouche rivers from the lookouts, which will be designed to be seen from a distance, day and night.

The non-repayable contribution was granted under CED's Quebec Economic Development Program (QEDP). The contribution will be used specifically to manage, build and set up two lookouts, one in Matapédia, the Deux-Rivières (Interceptor) lookout; and one in St-André-de-Restigouche, the Cœur des Plateaux lookout.
