New Transport for Mule ESB Provides End-to-End Open Source Mainframe Integration

Legs4Mule Combines LegStar's Rich Mainframe Functionality With Powerful Mule ESB Integration Platform

SAN FRANCISCO, CA--(Marketwire - June 23, 2009) - MuleSource, the leading provider of open source service oriented architecture (SOA) infrastructure software, today announced that a transport enabling mainframe integration is available on the MuleForge, the industry's most comprehensive hub for integration transports and adapters.

Legs4Mule provides Mule ESB users a transport and transformers for IBM mainframes, enabling legacy mainframe integration that leverages the advantages of loose coupling by building on the open source Mule ESB's architecture. Legs4Mule is based on the LegStar open-source mainframe integration project, the first open-source initiative in the domain of legacy application integration.

"As enterprises modernize their IT architectures with service-oriented approaches, they must integrate with existing mainframe technology," said Ross Mason, co-founder and CTO of MuleSource. "With Legs4Mule and Mule ESB, IT organizations can get the most out of their existing mainframe assets by service-enabling those applications and combining them with other services to form new composite applications."

Legs4Mule provides a number of benefits to Mule ESB users including:

-- Choice of HTTP or WebSphere MQ wire protocols to reach the mainframe
-- Flexible COBOL binding framework based on Java binding (JAXB)
-- Bi-directional capability -- the mainframe acts as server for Mule
clients or as client for Mule services
-- Binary wire protocol between Mule and the mainframe, for reduced
    overhead

"Legs4Mule combines the rich mainframe functionality of LegStar with the decoupled integration of Mule ESB, enabling development teams to fully incorporate their mainframe applications into their service-oriented composite applications," said Fady Moussallam, Managing Director of LegSem and Legs4Mule project lead. "We recognized that Mule ESB has the largest open source user base and the most extensive community in this space, and we are proud to help further extend its reach with Legs4Mule."

Legs4Mule works with Mule ESB 2.2, and is available for download on the MuleForge at http://www.mulesource.org/display/MULEFORGE/Home.
