New Version of Single Sign-On Medical Application Portal Launched; Orion's Concerto 6.1 Provides Streamlined Access and Broader Communication Between Multiple Organizations

SANTA MONICA, Calif.--(CCNMatthews - Jun 15, 2005) -

Orion Systems International Inc, a provider of integration and clinical workflow software to the healthcare sector, today announced the release of version 6.1 of Concerto™ Medical Applications Portal (MAP), which includes new features to streamline sign-ons to multiple applications, and new tools to improve communication between health professionals.

Enhanced Single Sign-On Support

Concerto 6.1 takes Single Sign-on to the next level of usability, combining the security and convenience of a basic Single Sign-on with the integration capabilities of a fully-featured web portal.

In addition to Single Sign-on, Concerto provides a unified view of all patient information from across the enterprise, including dynamic patient summaries, web-based views of clinical documents, lab reports and other critical data, combining information from multiple systems.

Health professionals often consult multiple clinical applications when caring for patients. Concerto's unified view and Single Sign-on saves clinician time by eliminating the need to sign-on and search for selected patients each time they open a new application. Concerto coordinates sign-on to both web-based applications and "fat client" applications installed on their computers.

"Clinical portals such as Concerto, and CCOW context management linked with enterprise-wide patient identifiers, offer superior access and usability for health organizations, far beyond basic single sign-on solutions," said Andrew Davidson, Director at First Consulting Group. "With single sign-on alone, clinical users may not get the widest and most complete picture of patient data. Without a tie to an enterprise EMPI also, there are genuine implications for patient safety."

Streamlining Clinician Communication

Concerto promotes standards-based communication and sharing of electronic health records (EHR) by allowing secure web access across health organizations, communities and regions.

With Concerto 6.1, clinicians can now 'subscribe' to receive automatic notifications when key care events occur. For example, clinicians can choose to receive notifications when a particular patient is discharged, or when an abnormal lab result is returned. These notifications can be delivered to a user's email, pager or Concerto homepage. The need to continually check online for new data can be reduced. Users can subscribe to pre-defined notifications, or define their own rule-based events.

Concerto also provides intra-portal messaging. Clinicians can now send electronic messages to other Concerto users across a health community or region. Messages can link to specific documents and data held in the patient's electronic record. Concerto user messaging is audited, and is fully encapsulated within the secure Concerto environment, avoiding the security risks associated with standard email.

Concerto 6.1 is being progressively rolled out to customers starting in June 2005.
