New Voucher Helps Ontario Companies Find E-Commerce Solutions

TORONTO, ONTARIO--(Marketwired - Oct. 10, 2013) - Up to 100 Ontario companies, working through one of nine colleges, will receive $2,500 each to build or enhance their online business presence under a new program launched today and administered by Ontario Centres of Excellence.

Through the new Voucher for E-Business (VEB), announced on June 26 as part of Ontario's Collaboration Voucher Program, companies will be selected by a participating college to take advantage of online tools - including e-commerce, website improvements and mobile apps - to drive business growth.

"Our government is committed to fostering collaboration between our colleges and businesses to create innovative solutions for 21st century business challenges," said Reza Moridi, Ontario's Minister of Research and Innovation. "Our Collaboration Voucher Program will help our companies become more modern, innovative, productive and competitive, part of our plan to create more jobs and growth in Ontario."

College faculty and students will engage with companies to identify their e-business challenges and work to solve them. E-business solutions may include website development, on-line sales process, digital and social media and customer relationship management.

Participating colleges are: Algonquin (Ottawa), George Brown (Toronto), Fanshawe (London), Cambrian (Sudbury), Niagara (Niagara Region), Lambton (Sarnia), College Boreal (Sudbury), Conestoga (Waterloo) and Georgian (Barrie). Details for each college are available at http://www.oce-ontario.org/programs/collaboration-voucher-program/VEB/veb-providers

"Finding innovative solutions to bridge gaps between research and business is at the very core of what OCE does," said OCE President and CEO Dr. Tom Corr. "With these vouchers, we will help main street businesses stay competitive through modern methods."

The VEB is one of four voucher types announced in June. Others are:

  • Voucher for Innovation and Productivity which helps companies develop innovative products, processes and services with a focus on expanding export markets.
  • Voucher for Commercialization which helps companies commercialize intellectual property developed at Ontario's research institutions via start-up or licensing opportunities.
  • Voucher for Industry Association R&D Challenge which connects industry associations or groups of companies with Ontario's publicly funded academic research institutions to address sector-wide research and development challenges.

The Collaboration Voucher Program was one of the key recommendations of the Government of Ontario's Jobs & Prosperity Council.
