New Website Acts as a Forum to Protect Against the Threat of a Two Tiered Justice System

EDMONTON, ALBERTA--(Marketwire - Nov. 24, 2010) - www.clickforjustice.ca is a new website launched on November 20, 2010. The website exists to point out what is suspected to be a major flaw in the Canadian legal system. The site's premise is based on the fact that if we allow the courts to compromise the fundamental principles of justice by providing preferential treatment to lawyers when, they are defended by the Law Society, then we open the door to allowing a two tiered justice system. This can cascade into justice being administered differently if you are poor, based on your race, based on your education, if you are a single parent, a senior, a young environmentalist, your political affiliations….etc.

One example of this two tiered application of the law is that while all other Canadians are held accountable under the Canadian Charter and the Canadian Evidence Act to give truthful evidence or the evidence they give can be used against them to prove perjury and/or that they provided contradictory evidence, the courts held that as per the Alberta Legal Profession Act, Rule 69, evidence given by a lawyer cannot be used to hold them accountable for perjury or for providing contradicting evidence.

www.ClickForJustice.ca is a way for the public to provide direct feedback on the state of our justice system to those who are the guardians of our justice system. The site is a result of many people being frustrated by a justice system that appears disconnected from the concerns of the public and the lack of accountability for lawyers who have breached their code of conduct. The site explains Bernie Budney's story and includes a special report from CBC regarding his battle with the Law Society.

The purpose of the site is to create awareness through a public forum that will allow Canadians to communicate directly to the Ministers of Justice and the Chief Justices by "Clicking for Justice." Bernie Budney states "We are dedicated to ensuring that our justice system remains one of the best in the world by providing direct public feedback to those who are responsible for safeguarding the fundamental principles that allow our justice system to be fair and transparent as it serves the public interest."  A fair and impartial justice system is not a gift that lasts forever, it is an achievement that requires the ongoing vigilance and efforts of all Canadians, as the owners of the justice system, to ensure that the guardians of our justice system do not sacrifice the fundamental principals of justice, thus creating a two tiered justice system.
