New Website Profiles Yukon's Mineral Industry Opportunities

WHITEHORSE, YUKON--(Marketwire - Nov. 20, 2009) - Senator Daniel Lang, on behalf of the Honourable Chuck Strahl, Minister of the Canadian Northern Economic Development Agency (CanNor), the Honourable Jim Kenyon, Yukon Minister of Economic Development, and the Honourable Archie Lang, Yukon Minister of Energy, Mines and Resources, today announced the launch of the new Yukon mineral industry website,

"This website will provide businesses with improved access to mining information," said Senator Lang. "It will help build awareness of opportunities for investment in Yukon's mining and minerals sector, and it will facilitate Northern economic development in Yukon." is a comprehensive website where users will find everything from current geological data on Yukon mineral deposits to regulatory approval process information. The Yukon government developed this site, with funding from CanNor's Strategic Investments in Northern Economic Development (SINED) initiative to increase international knowledge of the Yukon mineral industry and to promote Yukon as a good place to work and invest.

"I am very pleased to see this site go live," said Minister Kenyon. "Industry told us that they wanted all of the information about Yukon's mining and exploration industry to be in one, easy-to-access location. This website will definitely satisfy this request and it will introduce new industry members to the many opportunities Yukon has available."

This new site is a joint initiative between the Department of Economic Development and the Department of Energy, Mines and Resources. This innovative Internet portal will complement existing web-based information sources. Improved access to information will sharpen the focus of mining promotion in Yukon and consolidate a wealth of data to build awareness of opportunities for investment in Yukon's resource sector.

"This initiative ensures quick and easy access to relevant mineral and mining information," said Energy, Mines and Resources Minister Archie Lang. "With comprehensive and up-to-date geoscience data and technical information, the portal will be key in keeping the mineral sector fully informed and engaged in Yukon."

The Targeted Investment Program (TIP), a component of CanNor's SINED program, provided $243,970 to the project. The Yukon government contributed an additional $50,000.

SINED is a set of programs delivered by the Canadian Northern Economic Development Agency in Yukon, Northwest Territories and Nunavut.
