New Welch Allyn Devices Aimed at Advancing Early Diagnosis to Enhance Preventative Care

Company Will Showcase Full Suite of Solutions at the 2014 Medica Trade Fair and Congress

DUSSELDORF, GERMANY--(Marketwired - November 10, 2014) - Medica International Trade Fair and Congress -- Welch Allyn, a leading medical diagnostic device company that delivers pragmatic innovation at the point of care, is showcasing four newly-launched products at this week's Medica Trade Fair and Congress in Dusseldorf, Germany. Each of the products builds on the company's 100-year history of providing practical diagnostics solutions with advanced technology and features that are designed to help clinicians identify symptoms early for enhanced preventative care and patient outcomes. Trained personnel at the Welch Allyn booth in Hall 9 / E15 will be on hand to demonstrate the following devices for attendees who visit the stand during show hours:

  • Welch Allyn ABPM 7100 -- a next generation Ambulatory Blood Pressure Monitoring (ABPM) device that uses oscillometric technology to enhance blood pressure management.
  • Welch Allyn Pocket LED and Pocket Plus LED Otoscopes, Ophthalmoscopes and Sets -- high-performance diagnostic tools that provide the right balance of color temperature, color appearance and brightness. Pocket-sized and lightweight for easy portability, the set is customizable in four stylish colors.
  • Welch Allyn Spot Vision Screener -- a handheld, portable device designed to help users quickly and accurately detect vision issues in patients of all ages.
  • Welch Allyn Connex® Clinical Surveillance System -- an integrated solution designed to not only monitor traditional vital signs at the bedside, but also to alert clinicians of significant adverse events before they become critical.

"As Welch Allyn prepares to celebrate 100 years as a leading medical device manufacturer, we are proud to showcase our latest mix of core diagnostic solutions and cutting-edge technology," said Hisham Hout, senior vice president, Europe, Middle East, North Africa and the Indian Subcontinent at Welch Allyn. "There is no substitute for early detection -- whether it be the beginnings of a vision problem in a small child or the ability to prevent a post-operative patient from falling or developing critical complications. The advanced but user-friendly technology Welch Allyn is showcasing at Medica 2014 provides clinicians with tools to help ensure early detection, minimize patient risk, and improve staff productivity -- giving clinicians more time and more accurate information to make the best therapeutic decision for their patients."

Welch Allyn ABPM 7100
Using oscillometric technology, the most widely-accepted and validated method of NIBP measurements, the Welch Allyn ABPM 7100 is an easy-to-use, 24/7 ambulatory blood pressure monitor designed to enhance blood pressure management and make monitoring more efficient for both the clinician and the patient. The ABPM 7100 provides a comprehensive blood pressure analysis that has the ability to record accurate data while patients are sleeping, and provide data that allows clinicians to tailor drug therapy regimes to individual patient needs. With AutoFeedback Logic, the lightweight, compact, quiet APMB 7100 is designed to avoid the effects of "white coat hypertension," improve patient compliance and comfort, and reduce the risk of allergic reactions with a non-latex cuff. Next to standard ABPM tests, the device can be easily upgraded with new parameters to measure central blood pressure and pulse wave velocity.

Welch Allyn Pocket LED Set
Welch Allyn Pocket LED and Pocket Plus LED Otoscopes and Ophthalmoscopes are now offered individually or in a compact, pocket-sized set offering portability and durability in a choice of four customizable colors (onyx, plum, vanilla or blueberry) including the handle bumper and otoscope window bumper accessory set. Both devices are optimized with Welch Allyn SureColor LED lamp technology, which provides the right balance of color temperature, color appearance and brightness for early and accurate diagnoses. The Welch Allyn LED Ophthalmoscope is designed to provide the exact light needed for fundoscopic examinations, featuring a neutral density filter switch to virtually eliminate corneal glare and a soft rubber brow rest for enhanced patient comfort. The Welch Allyn LED Otoscope provides cool light and no reflection or obstruction for true tissue color, clarity and definition of the ear canal and fundus. Pocket Plus LED Otoscopes and Ophthalmoscopes include a 5-year warranty.

Welch Allyn Spot Vision Screener
Studies show that millions of children and teenagers do not receive the basic preventative care needed to ensure long-term health and well-being, including screenings for developmental delays and vision loss -- two conditions that often can be mitigated by early detection and treatment. Access to early screenings during early and middle childhood may help identify the emergence of major chronic disease/lifestyle risk factors and the ability to learn. The Welch Allyn Spot Vision Screener is a new generation of user-friendly vision assessment technology that can be used easily and effectively on patients of any age, developmental capacity or mobility. It is a fast, portable, easy-to-use binocular Vision Screener with wireless communication capabilities that screens for refractive errors often associated with more serious ophthalmological conditions.

Welch Allyn Connex® Clinical Surveillance System
The Welch Allyn Connex Clinical Surveillance System (CCSS) electronically captures and documents patient vitals from the bedside directly to the electronic medical record and alerts clinicians of significant adverse events that may occur in hospitals. This solution expands the capabilities of traditional intermittent vital signs systems to provide effective tools for the clinical staff on med/surg floors to help effectively identify, monitor and score early warning signs of potential patient deterioration. Through exclusive technology partnerships, the Connex CSS benefits from the integration of two additional monitoring parameters into the Welch Allyn Connex® Vital Signs Monitor (CVSM) -- in addition to traditional automated measurements such as pulse rate, blood pressure, temperature and pulse oximetry. These include acoustic respiration from Masimo® and Microstream® end-tidal carbon dioxide technology from Covidien.
