New WITRON AS/RS: More Than 10,000 Order Lines Daily

Weishaupt Sets up Spare Parts Logistics for the Future

PARKSTEIN, GERMANY and SCHWENDI, GERMANY--(Marketwired - May 19, 2016) - In December 2015, Max Weishaupt GmbH decided to refurbish its central spare parts logistics center located at their headquarters in Schwendi (Baden-Wuerttemberg, Germany) that was implemented by WITRON in 1994. The goal is to secure the best service level for all authorized dealers worldwide not only today but also in the future -- this means to supply a large number of customers on the next day after placing an order from an assortment of more than 62,000 different items. The order for the overall realization of the expansion and modernization of the logistics center was again awarded to the general contractor, WITRON Logistik + Informatik GmbH from Parkstein (Germany).

Max Weishaupt GmbH is one of the internationally leading companies for burners, heating, and condensing systems, heat pumps, and building automation. The owner-run medium-sized enterprise with revenue of 540 million Euros employs more than 3,000 staff members in 39 countries.

The project focus is the construction of a new automated small parts warehouse with a size of 1,600 square meters / 17,000 square feet that will be used for parts distribution and production supply. It comprises twelve aisles with a total of 80,000 tote locations. The central element is WITRON's Order Picking System (OPS). The cost-efficient picking of more than 10,000 order lines per day is done at five multi-functional and seven packing locations designed following the goods-to-person principle and in accordance with the high ergonomic requirements of the Weishaupt Company. Every workstation enables the picking of several orders at the same time. Weishaupt saves transportation costs through the consolidation of multiple orders from the same customer or a shipment tour by means of a one-aisle automated Order Consolidation Buffer (OCB).

WITRON's delivery and performance scope includes the entire design and implementation of all expansion, refurbishment, and modernization measurements, as well as corresponding IT and control engineering connection processes. A major part of the new highly dynamic conveyor system elements is developed and produced by WITRON's subsidiary, FAS. Productive use is planned for mid-2017.
