New Workshop Series Aims to Help Nova Scotia SMEs Access 'Megaprojects' in Atlantic Canada

HALIFAX, NOVA SCOTIA--(Marketwire - March 1, 2012) - Canadian Manufacturers & Exporters (CME) announced today a new series of workshops aimed at helping small and medium-sized manufacturers throughout Nova Scotia prepare for and access business opportunities in major projects throughout the region.

Ready, Set, Go…CME's Guide to Supplier Readiness will help companies tackle key challenges en route to becoming viable 'megaproject' suppliers, including pre-qualification, certification, procurement rules and process improvement.

"The National Shipbuilding Procurement Strategy has generated a lot of interest in the local manufacturing community," explains Ann Janega, vice president, CME Nova Scotia. "But there is much more on the horizon, such as electricity links, offshore development and construction. Our goal is to help SMEs increase their capacity and transition into viable project partners."

The series will kick-start in Halifax on March 20, featuring guest speaker, Elizabeth Beale, president of the Atlantic Provinces Economic Council. Beale will explore the region's capital investment outlook, while highlighting opportunities for firms to improve competiveness and succeed in both domestic and global markets.

"We are delighted this workshop has been made possible through the support of Atlantic Canada's entrepreneurial law firm, McInnes Cooper," says Janega. "With more than 150 years experience helping companies make the most of opportunity, they will share this extensive expertise and insight with SMEs that will benefit instantly."
