New World of Home Entertainment Has Arrived in Canada- the Shaw Gateway Experience


CALGARY, ALBERTA--(Marketwire - May 11, 2011) - Today, Shaw (TSX:SJR.B) (NYSE:SJR) announces the launch of the Shaw Gateway, the new standard in connected entertainment that combines the delivery of shared PVR, more than 1,200 HD Video On Demand titles and home networking capability that will allow customers to share pictures and content from their computer onto their television.

The Shaw Gateway brings together the power of broadband and high-definition technology with DLNA (Digital Life Network Alliance) standards to deliver the industry's best in home entertainment. The Gateway delivers a premium home entertainment experience like never before, bringing customers unparalleled HD, a shared home PVR connecting up to six TVs and an advanced user interface.

The shared PVR supports the recording of up to six programs at once, while playing back up to three previously recorded programs – all in HD. The summer and fall additions of home sharing and web integration will set the new standard in home entertainment.

The Shaw Gateway experience is the first product of its kind to be made available in Canada. It will allow customers to seamlessly pick-up recordings on another TV and resume playback without missing a beat. Customers can maximize their HD and SD recordings with the Gateway's compatibility with Shaw PVR Expanders.

The Shaw Gateway experience offers an enriched Program Guide with enhanced search and content filter capabilities, access VOD titles through a TV storefront, live events with Shaw Pay Per View and on-screen video games. Shaw Gateway's technology platform will enable more service features to be available in the coming months, including:

  • Integration of web content, providing customer access to Internet content through their TVs
  • Remote PVR scheduling that allows customers to set up program recordings online and on their handheld devices
  • Global Content Search of live TV, recorded TV, VOD and PPV content, and PC files on PCs and laptops.
  • Integration of social media and other popular online properties

The Shaw Gateway experience is available with the Shaw Easy Own program for $17 per month over 36 months or $598 to Shaw customers in Calgary immediately, and in Edmonton, Vancouver, and nationally throughout the summer.
