New York CHANEL Store Chooses Canadian Designer to Create Interactive Graffiti Installation for SoHo Reopening

VANCOUVER, BRITISH COLUMBIA--(Marketwire - Sept. 16, 2010) - Karl Lagerfeld's graffiti-inspired CHANEL campaign may have global reach, but it included a touch of hometown design last week when Vancouver B.C.'s Alex Beim was chosen create an interactive media installation for the reopening of the famous SoHo store in New York.

The founder of Tangible Interaction, a cutting-edge design firm, which specializes in creating sensory experiences, was chosen to install two 23-foot long digital graffiti walls, for guests like Sarah Jessica Parker, Liv Tyler, Blake Lively and Rachel Bilson to draw on using infrared CHANEL cans.

"Anytime you're dealing with designers of that caliber, you can't help, but feel honoured to be a part of the project," said Beim. "We try not to concentrate on the prestige of the brand, but rather the innovation of the project."

It's innovation after all, that has landed the four-year-old Vancouver-based company high profile gigs such as 16 installations for the 2010 Olympic Games, a 17-concert tour with Green Day, and various jobs for Coldplay, the Blue Man Group, MSN, Hello Kitty, Bacardi and Heineken to name a few.

"We've been lucky to work with internationally renowned talent on some the best projects in North America," said Beim. "We work really hard to set ourselves apart by creating real life experiences for people to interact with."

The latest media installation was designed by Apologue, Inc. The three-day celebration launched the new CHANEL store design using a porous "L" shaped LED canvas scaled at 10 feet high and 150 feet wide. Seamlessly embedded into the chamber that is created between the wall of light and the store facade was Beim's graffiti installation.
