New York City Plastic Surgeon Outlines What to Expect for Breast Lift Recovery

Dr. Daniel Y. Maman of 740 Park Plastic Surgery Provides a Basic Overview of What the Majority of Mastopexy Patients Can Expect Following Their Breast Enhancement Surgery

NEW YORK, NY--(Marketwired - Apr 20, 2016) - According to the most recent statistics released by the American Society for Aesthetic Plastic Surgery (ASAPS), mastopexy was the fifth most popular cosmetic surgical procedure performed last year. At 740 Park Plastic Surgery, New York City plastic surgeon Daniel Y. Maman, MD says the trend is no different, noting that mastopexy -- which is also known as breast lift surgery -- continually remains one of the top procedures among patients seeking aesthetic care.

With the high number of individuals interested in mastopexy, Dr. Maman states that he and his colleague, Dr. Stafford R. Broumand, often get asked several similar questions, one of which pertains to recovery from breast lift surgery. While the answer to this inquiry will vary from patient to patient, the NYC plastic surgeon explains that a few generalities exist that can give women a better understanding of what they may be able to expect after mastopexy.

Initially following breast lift surgery, Dr. Maman says the majority of patients will experience some degree of swelling and/or soreness in the breasts. These symptoms are temporary, however, and should gradually diminish as time passes. While a significant amount of pain is rare, he adds that any potential discomfort can generally be alleviated effectively with medication.

To aid in the healing process and help keep the breasts in an ideal position, Dr. Maman notes that a supportive bra must be worn for a specified period after surgery. Most women will be able to return to office jobs and/or other non-strenuous daily routines within about seven days of the procedure, he says, though any physically demanding activities should be avoided for at least one month. This may include actions such as aerobic exercise, weight training, and/or lifting heavy items at work or around the house.

Ultimately, Dr. Maman again stresses that recovery from mastopexy will be unique to every individual, so he advises seeking the expertise of a board certified plastic surgeon who has extensive experience in breast lift surgery for a more personalized outline. After performing a thorough evaluation of one's needs and cosmetic goals, he says a qualified physician can accurately predict what to expect based on the proposed surgical technique, specific desires, and individual lifestyle of the patient.
