New York City Plastic Surgeons Highlight Importance of Continuing Education

Stafford R. Broumand, MD and Daniel Y. Maman, MD Reflect on Their Recent Continuing Education Efforts and Reveal Why Ongoing Academia for Plastic Surgeons Is Critical to Providing Optimal Care

NEW YORK, NY--(Marketwired - Mar 26, 2015) - In an effort to consistently provide their patients with the highest level of care possible, Dr. Stafford R. Broumand and Dr. Daniel Y. Maman of 740 Aesthetics devote numerous hours to continuing education each year. Recently, the two New York City plastic surgeons attended the 2015 Baker Gordon Symposium in Miami, FL as well as a special round-table discussion hosted by The Plastic Surgery Channel (PSC) in Dallas, TX, both of which provided decidedly unique experiences.

"The great thing about Baker Gordon is that it's attended by several hundreds of surgeons, as opposed to other yearly aesthetic conferences that host several thousands of surgeons," notes Dr. Maman in a recent blog post. He explains that this offers a significantly smaller environment in which leaders in the field of plastic surgery can gather to collaborate on the latest, most effective trends and procedures available to patients nationwide.

One such procedure discussed during this year's Baker Gordon meeting was fat grafting in cosmetic breast surgery. As a relatively new field, Dr. Maman says he was particularly interested in learning about the most recent evidence and methods for successful fat grafting, and he was pleased to gain a better understanding of how to transfer larger volumes of fat while still obtaining excellent results and high fat survival rates.

Similar to the Baker Gordon Symposium, Dr. Broumand states that The Plastic Surgery Channel round-table discussion allowed for a collaborative conversation between top physicians in the country. However, he notes that PSC provided an even smaller, more intimate setting centered around practical aspects of plastic surgery as opposed to just academia. "During our round-table discussion, we sat with 12 other plastic surgeons and discussed various approaches and techniques utilized for particular cosmetic surgery procedures, as well as the different outcomes that can be achieved."

Dr. Broumand indicates that this PSC round-table conversation not only permitted Dr. Maman, himself, and their colleagues to challenge one another on various techniques, it enabled them to thoroughly analyze each method and compare it to what is being utilized at their respective practices. "As a result," he says, "Dr. Maman and I can successfully implement the best approaches to patient care into 740 Aesthetics."

Though all plastic surgeons are required to participate in some form of continuing education every year, both Drs. Maman and Broumand feel it is essential to go above and beyond the obligatory number of hours in order to provide the safest, most effective treatment. By regularly attending these meetings together as a team, they feel they can further enhance the high level of care provided at their practice.
