New York State Senate and Assembly Pass Legislation as a Direct Response to Water Contamination in Hoosick Falls, NY

NEW YORK, NY--(Marketwired - June 17, 2016) - Napoli Shkolnik PLLC, a nationally recognized litigation firm, has been made aware that extensive tests performed on the Hoosick Falls, NY municipal water supply show positive results for unsafe levels of the man-made chemical Perfluorooctanoic acid (PFOA).

Groundwater sampling at the McCaffrey Street facility found levels of PFOA as high as 18,000 parts per trillion (ppt), forty-five times higher than the health advisory level recommended by the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA). PFOA is linked to various diseases and cancers including testicular cancer, kidney cancer, thyroid disease, high cholesterol, ulcerative colitis and pregnancy-induced hypertension.

Following these news reports of PFOA contamination, Napoli Shkolnik PLLC filed a class action lawsuit in the Northern District of New York on behalf of Hoosick Falls, New York residents Bryan and Kary Schrom against Saint-Gobain Performance Plastics Corp. (Saint-Gobain) and Honeywell International, Inc. (Honeywell).

Important legislation passed in the State Senate and Assembly in response to the groundwater contamination crises in Hoosick Falls. This bill extends the claim filing period based on the discovery date of harm or the toxic substance source being classified as a Superfund site. This is particularly important in toxic substance exposure cases as, unfortunately, certain illnesses such as cancer can be slow-developing.

If you are a resident of Hoosick Falls and feel that you have succumbed to property damage and/or bodily injury resulting from the exposure to dangerous levels of PFOA, we at Napoli Shkolnik are here to help. Please contact us for more information about how we can assist you today.
