New York Yankees Average Home Game Ticket Price Drops 21% From Last Year, Still Most Popular Road Draw

SOUTH WINDSOR, CT--(Marketwired - Mar 31, 2016) - The New York Yankees average home game ticket price on the secondary market has decreased 21% after another disappointing season, according to TicketNetwork.* The Yankees average home game ticket price dropped from $134 last year to $107 in 2016. Besides losing the AL Wildcard to the Houston Astros in 2015, the Bronx Bombers haven't seen playoff action since they were swept by Detroit in the 2012 ALCS. They are also seven years removed from their last World Series title.

Yankees home game ticket price could be down this year partly due to the recent success of cross-town rival, New York Mets. After making it to the World Series last season, the Mets have seen a 13% increase in average home game ticket price in the same time span, jumping from $89 to $100. New York baseball fans are finding the Mets a good alternative to the slumping Yankees.

Yankees Still Popular on the Road

"Despite the decrease, the Yankees are still one of the most popular teams in all of baseball," says James Hodge, sports specialist at TicketNetwork. When it comes to a team affecting ticket prices on the road, the New York Yankees command the highest average ticket price. When they are on the road, the average ticket price of $112 is only matched by the Boston Red Sox. The Yankees are the most expensive ticket for an opponent for ten different teams, while that is only the case for the Red Sox for two opponents. The LA Dodgers command the third-highest road ticket price at $92, followed closely by the Royals with $91.

Aging players in the Yankees lineup including Alex Rodriguez (Age 40) and Carlos Beltran (Age 38) has been an issue as of late. The Yanks brought in fresh talent for 2016, charging up the already durable bullpen with the addition of the hard-throwing Aroldis Chapman. The biggest offseason move was the acquisition of young second-baseman Starlin Castro, who is having a very promising spring training, batting .385 through 15 games.

The Yankees 2016 season outlook is bright with fresh talent on the field and bullpen. Don't be surprised if Yankees find early success and home game ticket prices increase throughout the year.
