New Zettaset Patents Strategically Target Big Data Cloud Security

Patented Technologies Address High-Availability for Data Encryption Key Management, and User-to-Services Role Mapping to Enforce Access Permissions and Prevent System Intrusions

MOUNTAIN VIEW, CA--(Marketwired - Nov 10, 2015) - Zettaset, the leader in Big Data security, announced today that the United States Patent and Trademark Office has granted the company two patents of strategic importance to privacy and protection within Big Data cloud environments.

The first, "Methods and Computer Systems with Provisions for High Availability of Cryptographic Keys" (US Patent No. 9,141,814 B1), enables the creation of a shareable master key to generate corresponding encrypted cryptographic keys, which are stored in a key database in the shared file system. In the case of a failover event the availability of the encrypted cryptographic keys is not interrupted as a new master key manager takes over from the previous master key manager.

The second, "Monitoring of Authorization-Exceeding Activity in Distributed Networks" (US Patent No. 9,130,920 B2), provides network security layer maps roles for services and access permissions between a user and the services. The security layer uses a network authentication protocol to verify the role mapping at regular intervals to ensure that users are not exceeding baseline access permission policies, and executes a set of rules, including forceful log-out if necessary, to prevent system intrusion.

The new patents and their related technologies enable Zettaset to enhance its overall Big Data security product portfolio and deliver greater IT service and business benefits, including:

  • Providing cryptographically-enforced data-centric security
  • Securing computation and transactions in distributed computing environments
  • Supporting security best practices for Big Data stores in cloud infrastructures

In key global markets, particularly the U.S., cloud usage is rapidly growing and will ultimately outstrip internally managed systems. Lost among all the excitement about the potential of Big Data in the cloud are the very real security and privacy challenges that threaten to slow this momentum.

"For years, cloud computing adoption has progressed at a faster rate than cloud security could protect it," said Jim Vogt, Zettaset CEO. "Security and privacy issues are magnified by variables such as large-scale cloud infrastructures, diversity of data sources and formats, the streaming nature of data acquisition and the increasingly high volume of inter-cloud migrations. Consequently, traditional security mechanisms, which are tailored to securing small-scale static data are ineffective. Our new patented technologies re-affirm Zettaset's position as a leader in securing sensitive data across petabyte-scale Big Data stores and applications wherever they reside."
