NEWBURYPORT, MA--(Marketwired - May 6, 2014) - The Newburyport Brewing Company®, Massachusetts' own all-can and keg craft brewery, today announced that it will be one of 76 small and independent craft breweries represented at SAVOR(SM): An American Craft Beer & Food Experience. Presented by the Brewers Association and in its seventh year, SAVOR is the premier beer and food pairing event in the United States.
SAVOR returns to the National Building Museum in Washington, D.C. following its New York City debut in 2013. As in past years, each brewery will pour two of its craft beers, accompanied by a reception-style sampling of sweet and savory small plates designed by Brewers Association culinary consultant Adam Dulye, chef/owner of The Monk's Kettle and The Abbot's Cellar in San Francisco, and Chef Kyle Mendenhall, executive chef at The Kitchen in Boulder and Denver.
"We are very excited to be one of seven New England breweries participating in this prestigious event. We're especially looking forward to discussing craft beer and food pairings with some of the best chefs in the business," said Bill Fisher, co-founder and COO. "We will serve the Plum Island Belgian White and Newburyport Pale Ale to best represent our brewery, brewmaster, and geographic region."
"SAVOR provides a world-class and unparalleled atmosphere where small and independent craft brewers showcase their flavorful beers alongside a menu of strategic pairings," said Julia Herz, craft beer program director at the Brewers Association. "Attendees also have the unique opportunity of being personally served by the visionaries behind the brands."
The Plum Island Belgian White will be paired with a Hamachi Crudo featuring thin slices of Hamachi with finely diced cucumber, radish, bok choy and finished with a black pepper vinaigrette. A little bitterness from the radish zings through the wheat in the beer and the hamachi helps the citrus flavors cleanse the palate.
The Newburyport Pale Ale will be paired with a duo of Compressed Melon with Yuzu, featuring honeydew and cantaloupe melon pressed sous vide with yuzu and lemongrass. Citrus aromas continue on to the palate and the sweetness of the melon and yuzu are contrasted by the hop profile.
