Newlyweds Need to Revaluate Contents Insurance Says Swinton

MANCHESTER, UNITED KINGDOM--(Marketwire - April 17, 2011) - As the Royal Wedding approaches, Swinton Insurance is warning newly married couples to revaluate their contents insurance to account for expensive wedding day gifts, and the merging of a couples contents into one household.

A recent survey by Swinton, the UK's leading high street retailer of contents insurance revealed that only 27% of newly married couples revaluated their contents insurance after their nuptials to provide cover for their wedding gifts.

With the average happy couple receiving over £1,500 worth of gifts including items such as glassware, crystal and appliances it is important to ensure they are adequately covered.

Swinton is also advising homeowners to check their policy documents as most home insurance policies will offer an automatic temporary increase in cover for special occasions like weddings or Christmas. This can last for 30 days over the period and can be an increase of up to 30%.

Steve Chelton, Insurance Development Manager at Swinton said, "After a couple exchange their vows the value of the contents can increase considerably taking into account the new gifts they receive. However newlyweds shouldn't forget to include the wedding dress, the wedding rings and other expensive jewellery or the grooms outfit when revaluating their policy."

Steve added, "Prince William and Kate will no doubt be lavished with expensive gifts which they should add to their home insurance policy when they settle down to wedded bliss in North Wales."
