Newport Beach Architecture Firm Wins Recognition as Environmental Leader in Printing Practices

Knitter & Associates Architecture & Planning Wins Sustainable Reprographic Award From Professional Reprographics

TUSTIN, CA--(Marketwire - December 5, 2007) - Newport Beach architecture firm Knitter & Associates Architecture & Planning won ProRepro's gold Sustainable Reprographics Solutions (SRS) certification program award for fulfilling a stringent program that earned it distinction as a "green" company with sound in-house printing practices.

In the third quarter, Knitter & Associates generated 2,420 lbs. of waste paper, which ProRepro's reps took to a recycling center. ProRepro partners Keath Lauderdale and Tom Kennedy matched the amount of money collected from turning in the paper, and presented a check to president M.J. Knitter and company partner Michael Preece, with a custom-made wave-shaped award. Knitter & Associates plans to donate the money to a local environmental non-profit organization.

According to Preece, office manager Judy Lesar and senior media specialist Thomas Coleman were instrumental in initiating the program. A first step, Preece noted, was a major housecleaning throughout the 20-person office.

"We have a cleaner workplace now. Before we began recycling, we had roll upon roll of prints stored at workstations for jobs that were up to five years old. Now the only paper prints you see are for current jobs," said Preece. "We brought on ProRepro's team to manage our plotting and reduce our paper usage. They made the transition very easy."

ProRepro's Lauderdale said, "Knitter & Associates is to be commended for its openness to creating a more environmentally conscious workplace by using recycled materials and adhering to an authentic recycling program.

"Knitter's staff was very meticulous about following the five-point Sustainable Reprographics Solutions program, which includes waste reduction, access control -- both of which concern tracking exactly what gets printed and for whom -- education, recycling and using recycled papers, and instituting a rewards program. And you cannot discount the fact that by taking the printing for an architectural firm of this size in-house saves fuel and money. It reduces the number of cars on our congested roadways. A typical delivery charge by a traditional reprographics house is $31."

ProRepro also collects Knitter's used ink cartridges and donates them to a local church that uses the rebate money for scholarships to its preschool program.

Knitter & Associates provides architectural and planning services to a broad spectrum of the building and development industry throughout the U.S. and internationally.
