News Anchor Mike Pomeranz Leaving KARE 11

GOLDEN VALLEY, MN--(Marketwire - Feb 27, 2012) - KARE 11, Gannett Co., MINNEAPOLIS -- After six years, news anchor Mike Pomeranz is leaving KARE 11. He will begin the next chapter of his career as broadcaster for the San Diego Padres. KARE 11 President and General Manager John Remes made the announcement to staff on Monday, February 27, 2012.

"It's been great to have Mike on the KARE 11 team and help set the stage for him to fulfill his dream," said Remes. "We wish him and his family the very best."

Pomeranz came to KARE 11 in January 2006 from WCBS-TV in New York where he held various positions as an award winning reporter and anchor, including live coverage of the World Trade Center attacks September 11, 2001. He has anchored KARE 11's 5 p.m., 6 p.m. and 10 p.m. newscasts throughout his tenure with the NBC affiliate television station.

"KARE 11 has been great for my family and me these last six years," said Pomeranz. "It took the opportunity of a lifetime to pull me away."

Growing up, Pomeranz says his dream job was to be a professional baseball player and in fact, he was a pitcher in the Minnesota Twins system before a shoulder injury ended his baseball career. Mike graduated from the Walter Cronkite School of Journalism at Arizona State University and worked as a reporter and anchor in Chicago, Knoxville, Colorado Springs and New York City before coming to KARE 11.

Pomeranz's last day at KARE 11 will be March 23, 2012.
