The NewsMarket Launches Editorial Calendar Wiki and Online Messaging Tool for Journalists

New Community Features for Global Media & Content Providers

NEW YORK, NY -- (MARKET WIRE) -- March 12, 2007 -- The NewsMarket, the media's online source for video, today introduces new tools to foster stronger collaboration between its community of content providers and journalists, and encourage closer communication in news gathering.

The first feature is a comprehensive user-generated editorial news calendar wiki aimed at helping journalists in story planning with video elements. The news calendar wiki also serves as:

-- a current-events repository important in news planning,
and will help point journalists to available video content on The
-- a roster of organization-based activities for the media's
use in story-idea gathering and editorial coverage planning.
During the beta, the wiki will be open to clients and registered media users of The NewsMarket, but it's designed to be an entirely public wiki forum to plan editorial efforts, initiatives and coverage.

The second feature is Talk!, an online messaging tool for journalists to reach out directly to company PR professionals via an online query form. Journalists will be able to send requests for video clips and interviews; ask questions about product launches and provide suggestions directly to the relevant content provider.

"We have a deep base of journalist users from across the globe interacting with us daily and organizations such as Microsoft, BMW and UNICEF contributing video for their use. Empowering both these communities to collaborate more with these tools will result in more efficient news gathering," said The NewsMarket CEO and Co-Founder Shoba Purushothaman.

A major challenge in news gathering has been the availability of an up-to-date and comprehensive calendar of news events. News services such as the Associated Press and Reuters produce daily calendars of the news events they plan to cover. There are also subscription-based services that provide regular updates on upcoming news events. The NewsMarket's news calendar wiki offers a platform and a "user-generated" approach for real-time updates to the global news agenda by any participant in the news creation process.
