NexGen Digital Expands In-House Anti-Counterfeit Process by Adding Jet Etch Decapsulation System

In-House Counterfeit Avoidance Services Available From NexGen Digital Test and Validate the Authenticity of Electronic Devices for OEMs and Contract Manufacturers

IRVINE, CA--(Marketwire - July 14, 2010) -  Further bolstering its industry-leading anti-counterfeit detection process, NexGen Digital Inc. today rolled out a decapsulation service to verify and authenticate original equipment manufacturer (OEM) and contract manufacturer devices. NexGen Digital tests ceramic and plastic package types, including dual in-line package (DIP) devices, quad-flat packs (QFP) and thin quad-flat packs (TQFPs), small outline devices, small outlined integrated circuit (SOIC) devices, die-down and fine-pitch ball grid array (BGA) memory chips and plastic pin grid array (PPGA) connections.

"We offer global contractors one of the most rigid in-house laboratory systems available for anti-counterfeit detection," said Lisa Taylor, chief executive officer, NexGen Digital. "We are vigilant because component counterfeiters deploy ingenious methods to hide their deception. Our customers work with NexGen Digital because they know we will source and sell authentic OEM components only from surplus and franchise markets."

The Jet Etch system identifies counterfeit devices by using acid to remove outer layers that encapsulate complex, high-density parts to expose die markings, bond pads, bond wires and lead frame interconnects. Following decapsulation, a trained, on-staff IDEA-ICE-3000-certified inspector examines the components carefully with high-magnified microscopes to determine device authenticity.
