Next Generation Test Prep to Help Teacher Candidates Prepare for the Praxis™ Assessments

PRINCETON, NJ--(Marketwire - October 19, 2010) -  Educational Testing Service (ETS) today announced the launch of two next generation test preparation tools that use technology to help teacher candidates better prepare for the Praxis™ assessments.

"Today's teacher candidates grew up using technology and they expect interactivity when learning and teaching," ETS Vice President and Chief Operating Officer of Teacher Licensure and Certification, Linda Tyler, said. "We understand and support those expectations by marrying today's technology with our extensive test preparation experience to develop the next generation tools that will help Praxis candidates succeed."

The Praxis I® Study Plan on Demand will be helpful to students entering teacher preparation programs. Using video and online tools, it provides candidates with the ability to design and personalize their own study plans to meet their individual skills and test taking needs. It provides a detailed walk-through of the topics covered on Mathematics, Reading and Writing, along with content categories, topics covered and sample questions with helpful tips. The Study Plan on Demand is an interactive multimedia presentation that gives test takers an overview of what to expect before, on and after test day, in addition to information that will help them focus their studies.

Two interactive practice tests are now available to help potential teachers obtain their initial license. The tests, available for The Elementary Education: Curriculum, Instruction and Assessment Interactive Practice Test and Elementary Education: Content Knowledge Interactive Practice Test, allow candidates to simulate an online testing experience with a fully interactive, previously administered practice test. It provides valuable features to help test takers prepare, including a countdown timer, which allows candidates to simulate a testing experience; explanations of all correct answers; and an interactive, color-coded scorecard grouped by topics so candidates can quickly see the topic areas where they should focus their test preparation. In addition, test takers have the option to print their results from the interactive practice test.

"These tools represent the latest addition to an already strong technology-based system of testing made available as a part of The Praxis Series™ of assessments," Tyler said. "ETS has offered Praxis I tests on computer for almost two decades; the introduction of these technology-based study tools reaffirms our commitment to support the changing needs of teacher candidates."

In addition to Praxis I test takers, prospective elementary education teachers across the country can now choose to take their assessments on computer at Prometric test centers nationwide, which provide unprecedented access to licensure assessments through more than 400 computer-delivered test centers offering 5,000 seats around the nation.

Tyler added that ETS continues to support teacher candidates by expanding and delivering an array of free and low-cost innovative preparation tools including the recently released video, "Welcome to Your Computerized Praxis™ Testing Experience," which helps minimize anxiety by providing an introduction to the test day experience.

The Study Plan on Demand is available for $15.95. The interactive practice tests are available at the ETS Store for $17.95 each and are available as a 90-day subscription from the day the practice test is first launched, not the purchase date.
