ARLINGTON, VA--(Marketwired - April 28, 2014) -
The Next Part, a short documentary film produced by Shoulder 2 Shoulder, Inc., about the journey of recovery for a severely wounded soldier and his wife, was awarded the Special Jury Mention at the 2014 Tribeca Film Festival. The film received the award in
the Short Film Competition - Best Documentary Short category and was announced during the international film festival's ceremony at the Conrad New York in New York City on Thursday, April, 24, 2014.
"We are very thankful and honored to have The Next Part receive this award from the Tribeca Film Festival," said Chris Ferguson, the film's executive producer and president of Shoulder 2 Shoulder, Inc. "We hope our film continues to help raise awareness and understanding about the challenges and consequences faced by wounded warriors and their spouses."
The short documentary film is told from the unique perspective of Kathleen "Kat" Causey, as she and her husband retired Sgt. 1st Class Aaron Causey adjust to the extreme challenges and changes in their lives as a result of the catastrophic injuries he sustained while serving as an Army Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) technician in Afghanistan in 2011. An improvised explosive device (IED) cost Aaron both of his legs and caused significant soft tissue damage. The film is an intimate look at the Causeys' long and emotional journey through recovery and their struggle to conceive before Aaron's medical treatments decreased his fertility.
"Meeting Kat and Aaron and creating this film is the most personally impactful work I've done," said Erin Sanger, director of The Next Part. "I am very grateful to the Causeys for letting me share their experiences and to the Tribeca Film Festival for this recognition."
The 2014 Tribeca Film Festival took place from April 16-27 in New York City and featured films from emerging and established directors from around the world. The Next Part world premiered at the festival and was among the 58 short films from 16 countries that were selected from more than 3000 submissions to be part of this year's festival's Short Film Selections.
