NextHop Announces Wi-Fi Networking With Controller Communities

CompleteMobility Offers Communities of Wi-Fi Controllers for Scalability and High Availability

MOUNTAIN VIEW, CA--(Marketwire - July 11, 2007) - NextHop Technologies® Inc., the leader in enterprise mobility and networking solutions, today announced Controller Community Management (CCM™) for enterprise-level scalability and high availability. As a part of its Enterprise CompleteMobility solution, announced earlier this year, NextHop's CCM enables a collective of controllers to act as a single extensible community sharing network connectivity information and client credentials. This permits virtually unlimited scalability, seamless roaming across the entire network, automatic rollover upon failure and coordinated detection of rogues. The net result is a robust enterprise scale, high availability wireless environment required today by all demanding enterprises.

Until now, Wi-Fi controllers have existed as overlay wireless islands riding on the coattails of the wired infrastructure. Each controller and its associated access points (APs) were only aware of each other, but not of its entire Wi-Fi community. Adding new controllers and additional access points caused serious confusion in the network. Additional management software had to be deployed to share client credentials and controller status across controllers for roaming and to manage false rogue alerts in the network.

CCM™ feature benefits:

-- High Availability: N:M controller redundancy
-- Seamless Roaming: Toll quality voice roaming across APs on different
    controllers
-- Coordinated "Rogue" Detection: APs on different controllers share
their view of the environment to help detect and mitigate unauthorized APs
    on the network
-- WorldView™ Management: User interfaces and SNMP (Simple Network
Management Protocol) management provide a unified view of an entire
    community, anywhere around the globe

CCM creates an extensible community of NextHop powered Wi-Fi controllers by sharing network and client state information within the community, regardless of physical distance. This revolutionary design for the enterprise wireless environment provides all of the benefits of a scalable enterprise class network with attendant benefits of community-based redundancy. Since state information of AP associations is shared, should a given controller fail, APs will automatically re-associate to a working controller. Finally, with CCM, NextHop also provides WorldView™, an integrated management console. Unlike other solutions in the market today, no additional appliance or management software is required.

"Controller Communities takes center stage in providing an enterprise class wireless solution," said PG Menon, vice president of marketing for NextHop Technologies, Inc. "We continue to demonstrate our thought leadership and our customers understand the power that NextHop brings to their markets."

NextHop's CompleteMobility-Enterprise software was announced at InterOp May 2007. It will be available third quarter of this year.
