NextStudent Encourages College Applicants to Explore All Their Admissions and Application Options

PHOENIX, AZ--(Marketwire - December 3, 2007) - With college application deadlines just around the corner, NextStudent, a leading Phoenix-based education funding company, encourages high school seniors and other college applicants to explore all their application and admissions options to find the timetable and process that work best for them. To help students through the college application process, NextStudent offers this guide to application and admissions terms:

Early Decision

  • Application deadline falls earlier (November/December) than regular admissions deadlines, but applicant may receive an acceptance earlier
  • Applicants agree to attend the school if accepted under early decision
  • Students may apply early decision to only one school
  • Students applying to a school under early decision may apply to other schools under the regular admissions program, but agree to withdraw their other applications if accepted under early decision

Early Action

  • Applicants aren't required to attend the school if accepted under early action

  • Applications reviewed and decided on as submitted
  • Applications accepted until all freshman slots filled
  • Applicants may be notified of acceptance within four to eight weeks of application
  • No restrictions regarding applying to other schools
  • The earlier a student applies, the less competition there may be, and the earlier the student may receive a decision
  • A student may still be able to apply after regular admissions deadlines at other schools have passed, but the later a student applies, the fewer openings may be available, and the less financial aid (grants, work-study, student loans) may be available

Common Application

  • Allows applicants to fill out one single application that can be submitted to any of over 320 participating schools
  • Saves applicants the time and work of filling out multiple applications and writing multiple college application essays
  • Evaluated on the basis of grades, standardized test scores, application essays, and letters of recommendations
  • Given the same consideration as school-specific applications
