NextView Ventures Reveals Strategy, Portfolio, and Venture Advisors

Stealthy Boston-Based Micro-VC Firm Unveils Nine Investments and Six Notable Entrepreneur Advisors

CAMBRIDGE, MA--(Marketwire - January 18, 2011) -  NextView Ventures, a Boston-based micro-VC firm, has launched their new website (www.nextviewventures.com) and reveals their investment strategy and early portfolio.

Although the firm has operated in stealth mode over the past six months, NextView has quietly assembled a portfolio of nine seed stage investments in "internet enabled innovation." These include:

More information on these companies can be found at their respective website or at the NextView Ventures Portfolio Page. The investments span a range of rapidly growing sectors including consumer internet, SaaS, and technology-enabled services. Through these investments, NextView has co-invested with leading seed stage investors and venture capital firms in Boston, New York, and Silicon Valley.

"We are excited about the growing momentum in the entrepreneurial community in Boston and New York and are thrilled to be working with great entrepreneurs building ambitious and disruptive companies. We can't imagine a better time or place to be a seed stage investor," said David Beisel, a co-founder and Partner at NextView who also founded Boston's Web Innovators Group (http://www.webinnovatorsgroup.com), the largest ongoing entrepreneur-focused tech gathering in the Northeast.

In addition to the new investments, NextView also unveiled six notable entrepreneurs that are collaborating with the firm as "Venture Advisors." These entrepreneurs include:

  • Niraj Shah and Steven Conine -- Co-founders of CSN Stores
  • Mike Baker -- Founder of DataXu and former CEO of Enpocket (acq by Nokia)
  • Brian Shin -- Founder of Visible Measures
  • David Cancel -- Founder of Performable and founder of Compete (acq by TNS)
  • Nabeel Hyatt -- GM of Zynga Boston and founder of Conduit Labs (acq by Zynga)

"We are pleased and honored to be collaborating with this exceptional group of entrepreneurs and angel investors," stated Rob Go, a co-founder of NextView and formerly at eBay and Spark Capital. "These six entrepreneurs represent deep domain expertise in some of the fastest growing segments in the technology industry and are helping us bring transformative value to our portfolio of investments. Most importantly, they share our firm's ethos around supporting the startup community and enabling emerging entrepreneurs to build pillar companies in this region."

The launch of NextView comes in a time of renewed interest in seed stage investing and strong momentum among large-scale internet businesses like Facebook, Groupon, Twitter, and LinkedIn. Said Lee Hower, a NextView Partner and co-founder of LinkedIn:

"We are seeing a long-lasting change in the way internet companies are built and financed. The trends of capital efficiency and the maturing platforms for scaling and monetizing web services is giving rise to a new class of stage appropriate investors that are more closely aligned with entrepreneurs."
