Niagara CPAs Prepared 469 Free Tax Returns

Chartered Professional Accountants have helped low-income earners since 1969

TORONTO, ONTARIO--(Marketwired - June 18, 2014) - For the 46th year in a row, the Chartered Professional Accountants of Ontario organized its annual Free CPA Tax Clinics, which were offered at various locations across the province.

In Niagara Region, Chartered Professional Accountants (CPAs) and their associates helped prepare 469 tax returns at 46 clinics for people in low-income brackets. Across Ontario, CPAs prepared a record 14,240 tax returns for low-income individuals during tax season.

Designed to serve low-income individuals who need help preparing tax returns, the Free CPA Tax Clinics help individuals receive tax credits and refunds they are entitled to. Since the program was initiated, thousands of Ontarians have benefited from this free service.

Today, the program is an ongoing partnership between over 200 community service groups that host the clinics and 1707 volunteer Chartered Professional Accountants and their associates who complete the returns free of charge. The program runs between mid-February and the end of March. The Free CPA Tax Clinics are open to those with total annual household income less than $30,000 with dependents and less than $20,000 with no dependents. The program will run again during tax season in 2015.
