NICK TAYLOR LEADS AT 2005 CANADIAN JUNIOR BOYS CHAMPIONSHIP

British Columbia leads by two strokes in Inter-provincial Team Championship Attention: Sports Editor, Travel/Tourism Editor WOODSTOCK--(CCNMatthews - Aug. 8, 2005) - Nick Taylor of Abbotsford, B.C. took advantage of the excellent conditions at Craigowan Golf and Country Club by shooting a 66 for a two-stroke opening-round lead at the 2005 Canadian Junior Boys Championship, conducted by the Royal Canadian Golf Association.

"The course is awesome… it's in perfect condition," said Taylor, winner of the 2005 BMO Financial Group Future Links Pacific championship. "I was hitting the ball really well and putting it into the right spots; I will need to continue hitting the fairways and greens going into the next three rounds."

Local favorite Michael McKenzie of Cambridge, Ont. sits tied for second at three-under-par 68 with 15-year old Eugene Wong of North Vancouver, B.C. who is competing in the 16-and-under Juvenile division. Sitting three-strokes off the lead and tied for fourth are Brad Larente of Cambridge, Ont. and Jeff Stashuk of Coquitlam, B.C. Defending champion Raphael Lee of Burnaby, B.C. struggled on the day with a five-over-par 76 while 2004 Canadian Amateur Champion Darren Wallace of Langley, B.C. sits tied for 48th, eight-shots back of the lead.

In the Juvenile division, Wong holds a two-stroke lead over Matt Hill of Brights Grove, Ont., Alex Hrycko of Toronto, Ont. and Dong Su of Richmond, B.C. who shot opening-round 70's. The trio of Juveniles sit tied for sixth in the overall standings.

"I am going to continue to play the ball tee to green in the next three rounds to stay on top," said Wong who when asked how he would feel if he repeated Raphael Lee's 2004 win in both the Junior and Juvenile divisions said…"that would be so amazing!"

In the Inter-provincial Team Championship defending champion British Columbia leads by two strokes heading into Tuesday's final round of team play. The team of Lindsay Renolds of Christina Lake (74), Andrew Robb of Richmond (75), Roger Sloan of Merritt (74) and Eugene Wong of North Vancouver (68) finished the day with a team-total 216. Alberta sits in second at 218 while Quebec is five-shots off the lead in third at 221.
