Nielsen SoundScan in Pact With Musicane to Enable Unsigned Artists to Climb Music Charts

Musicane Elevates Indies Onto Industry Charts

LOS ANGELES, CA -- (MARKET WIRE) -- March 20, 2006 -- Musicane (, provider of market-leading commerce services that enable artists, labels and content aggregators to sell downloads directly from their own web sites, today announced a groundbreaking pact with Nielsen SoundScan. Under the terms of the relationship, Musicane will report all artists' sales processed through its commerce platform to Nielsen SoundScan, including music video sales. The unprecedented deal marks the first opportunity for recording artists who sell music directly from their own web sites to have these sales included in the SoundScan digital sales data and Billboard charts.

Once an artist has launched their own Musicane store for their digital tracks, and music videos, the sales from these stores will be aggregated with all other digital download sales information in SoundScan. Then it's up to artists to promote their work so they can climb up the charts.
