NIH Signs a Multi-Year Deal With Active Motif for AKS2 Software

CARLSBAD, CA and MADRID, SPAIN--(Marketwire - May 20, 2008) - Active Motif (Carlsbad, California) and Bioalma (Madrid, Spain) announced today that the Center for Information Technology (CIT) at the National Institutes of Health (NIH) has signed a multi-year deal to license AlmaKnowledgeServer 2 (AKS2) software, a knowledge discovery system based on unique text mining methodologies developed by Bioalma. CIT will use AKS2 to support an annotation platform for the human salivary proteome project. The project has the long-term goal of supporting the discovery of saliva-based diagnostic tests.

"We are pleased to have the NIH join our list of pharmaceutical and biotechnology customers who understand how AKS2 improves the delivery of published biological knowledge to their life scientists and biomedical researchers," stated Darryl Leon, Ph.D., Product Manager at Active Motif.

Luis Cornide, General Manager of Bioalma, commented, "It is an important landmark for Bioalma that the NIH, the most prestigious biomedical research center in the U.S., has chosen our technology to complement their internal research projects."
