Photography News: Nikon Announces a New Series of Advanced Compact Cameras, Featuring 1" Sensors and a Choice of Three Zoom Lenses, as Well as Three New Sleek COOLPIX Point-and-Shoots

NEW YORK, NY--(Marketwired - February 23, 2016) - B&H Photo would like to share the announcement of the DL-series of advanced compact cameras. Featuring 1" backside-illuminated CMOS sensors and a choice of three zoom lenses, the DL18-50 f/1.8-2.8, DL24-85 f/1.8-2.8, and DL24-500 f/2.8-5.6 cover a range of perspectives to suit an array of shooting applications. Also being announced are three new COOLPIX models, the A900, B500, and B700 featuring a 35x, 40x, and 60x optical zoom lenses, respectively.

The Nikon DL18-50 f/1.8-2.8 and DL 24-85 f/1.8-2.8 feature fast f/1.8-f/2.8 maximum aperture ranges on their 18-50mm and 24-85mm equivalent lenses, respectively, for shooting in a variety of situations. These lenses are also benefited by the inclusion of Aspherical ED glass and HRI elements, as well as Nano Crystal and fluorine coatings and optical VR to minimize the appearance of camera shake. The DL18-50 also features Perspective Control to correct for convergence and the DL24-85 incorporates a Super Macro mode as well as a built-in ND filter for more flexible shooting. The DL 24-500 f/2.8-5.6 separates itself with a notably longer equivalent zoom range of 24-500mm, and also features Sport VR mode to optimize Vibration Reduction settings for photographing fast-moving subjects.

All of the DL-series cameras revolve around a CX-format 20.8MP BSI CMOS sensor and EXPEED 6A image processor, which affords a wide sensitivity range of ISO 160-12800, along with fast 20 fps shooting with full AF, 60 fps shooting with fixed focus, and UHD 4K video recording at up to 30p. The sensor and processor combination also avails the 171-area Advanced Hybrid AF system which includes 105 phase-detection points for quick and accurate focusing performance in a variety of lighting conditions. All DL-series cameras feature DSLR-inspired controls and operation, as well as SnapBridge wireless connectivity for remote camera control and image sharing with mobile devices. In addition to the rear 1.037m-dot OLED touchscreen monitor, the cameras also support the new DF-E1 Electronic Viewfinder as a means for eye-level image composition.

The three COOLPIX cameras allow you to capture distant subjects with staggering detail. With 35x, 40x, and 60x optical zoom lenses, the A900, B500, and B700, respectively, will let you go big while packing light. The B500 features a 16MP BSI CMOS sensor and offers Full HD 1080p video recording capabilities, while the A900 and B700 cameras both feature a 20.2MP BSI CMOS sensor and avail UHD 4K recording at up to 30p. Each camera also sports a 3.0" 921k-dot LCD monitor, with the B500 and A900 seeing tilting designs and the B700 offering a swiveling vari-angle design. The B700 also integrates an electronic viewfinder for eye-level monitoring. These new COOLPIX cameras all feature built-in Wi-Fi with NFC and Bluetooth low energy (BLE) for wirelessly linking with a smartphone or tablet via the Nikon SnapBridge app.
