Nimbula Joins Open Virtual Alliance (OVA) to Accelerate the Adoption of Open Virtualization Technologies

MOUNTAIN VIEW, CA--(Marketwire - Jun 23, 2011) - Nimbula, the Cloud Operating System Company, today announced that it has joined the Open Virtualization Alliance, a consortium committed to fostering the adoption of open virtualization technologies including Kernel-based Virtual Machine (KVM). HP, IBM, Intel and Red Hat are governing members of the new consortium.

"Supporting KVM as a hypervisor since day 1, Nimbula Director is a robust, scalable and highly automated Infrastructure as a Service software platform for both enterprise and service provider customers," said Reza Malekzadeh, Nimbula VP of Marketing. "We are thrilled to be participating in the Open Virtualization Alliance as it is very much aligned with our strong commitment to offering an open and extensible platform to our customers."

KVM is built into versions of Red Hat Enterprise Linux 5.4 and beyond. Nimbula recently announced that Nimbula Director will support Red Hat Enterprise Linux 6 and Red Hat Enterprise Virtualization 2.2, which provide a strong foundation for today's cloud deployments. This new support enables enterprises and service providers to take advantage of recent advancements around virtualization, performance and security from one of the world's most trusted IT platforms and extend it into the cloud using their existing applications or management tools.

"We are very pleased to welcome Nimbula into the Open Virtualization Alliance," said Scott Crenshaw, vice president and general manager, Cloud Business at Red Hat and a founding member of the Open Virtualization Alliance. "This groundswell of support for the Open Virtualization Alliance from industry leaders and innovators shows the overwhelming demand for KVM as the open virtualization alternative. KVM delivers leading performance, scalability and security, making it the ideal alternative to proprietary virtualization technologies."

Open Virtualization Alliance's goal is to help:

  • Increase overall awareness and understanding of KVM
  • Foster the adoption of KVM as an open virtualization alternative to proprietary solutions
  • Accelerate the emergence of an ecosystem of third-party solutions around KVM
  • Encourage interoperability, promote best practices, and highlight examples of customer successes
