Nine Advocate Hospitals Earn Highest Rating for Patient Safety

DOWNERS GROVE, IL --(Marketwired - October 24, 2013) - Advocate Health Care hospitals across Chicagoland have been recognized for exemplary patient safety by the Washington-based Leapfrog Group.

This week the group announced grades for more than 2,500 hospitals across the U.S. Analyzing publicly available data on 28 different evidence-based safety measures, Leapfrog assigns letter grades from A to F based on each hospitals' success in preventing infection, injuries, medication errors and more.

Advocate Christ Medical Center, Advocate Condell Medical Center, Advocate Good Samaritan Hospital, Advocate Good Shepherd Hospital, Advocate Illinois Masonic Medical Center, Advocate Lutheran General Hospital, Advocate South Suburban Hospital, Advocate Sherman Hospital, and Advocate Trinity Hospital, all earned an "A."

"Our patients and communities deserve the finest care that medicine has to offer," said Lee Sacks, MD, executive vice president and chief medical officer, Advocate Health Care. "This recognition is a testament to our physicians and clinical teams who are dedicated to delivering the safest and highest quality of clinical care and health outcomes to the patients we serve."

With as many as 440,000 Americans dying annually from avoidable hospital errors, efforts to improve patient safety must be a top priority, Leapfrog officials said.
