Ninety-One Percent of Consumers Find This Year's Holiday Sales and Deals Better Than, or at Least as Good as, Last Year's, According to Eversave's "Last Minute Holiday Shopping Quick Poll"

35 Percent Surveyed Haven't Started Holiday Shopping Yet and 18 Percent Have Just Started, Pointing to Merchant Opportunities for Last Minute Holiday Sales and Deal Promotions

WAKEFIELD, MA--(Marketwire - December 16, 2010) - The holiday shopping rush is in full swing and consumers who have yet to complete their shopping are hungry for last minute sales and deals. These are some of the top findings of Eversave's 2010 Last Minute Holiday Shopping Quick Poll conducted online between December 9 and December 14. Prospectiv is owner and operator of Eversave.com, the second-biggest couponing website in America.

2010 holiday sales and deals versus 2009

Asked to compare this year's holiday sales and deals with last year, 48 percent of consumers surveyed reported "slightly better" to "much better" sales this year and 43 percent said that sales are "about the same." Only 9 percent said that last year's sales were better than this year. 

Holiday shopping procrastinators hungry for deals 

How far along are consumers in their holiday shopping? As of the Eversave Quick Poll closing date of December 14th, 35 percent surveyed said that hadn't yet started their holiday shopping and 18 percent had just started. Close to an equal number of consumers are resting easy during these last days of the holiday shopping season -- 32 percent said they are almost done and 15 percent reported that they had completed their holiday shopping. 

"We're down to the final days of the holiday shopping season and fifty-three percent surveyed either haven't started or are in the early stages, so there are still lots of opportunities for merchants to drive sales and bring in new customers with last minute holiday promotions," said Jere Doyle, President and CEO of Prospectiv. "Daily deal promotions can be a great way to get the attention of last minute shoppers as well as those shoppers hungry for deals immediately following the holidays. We conducted another survey in November finding that 88 percent of consumers planned to use or would consider using daily deal sites for holiday shopping."

Asked to self identify their holiday shopping style, 46 percent said they are "seasonal shoppers," 39 percent identified themselves as "last minute shoppers" and 16 percent put themselves in the "early bird" category. 

Who shops the day before Christmas? More people than you think!

Consumers responding to Eversave's survey also shared their holiday shopping habits, including how far down to the wire they'll go when purchasing holiday gifts. Fifty-two percent surveyed said they have purchased a holiday gift as late as the day before Christmas, 13 percent have bought gifts on Christmas day and 18 percent surveyed brazenly admitted purchasing belated gifts after Christmas.

When asked about the hardest people to buy for on their holiday shopping list, consumers shared the following:
