BJ Penn, New Kids on the Block, Neighbors for Neighbors, and the Brooklyn Art Project Enable Their Members to Build and Strengthen Relationships by Giving and Receiving Virtual Gifts Around Their Interests and Passions

Ning Achieves 300 Percent Growth Year Over Year

PALO ALTO, CA--(Marketwire - October 21, 2009) - Ning, (, the social platform for the world's interests and passions online, today launched a customizable virtual gifts product to the more than 1.6 million Ning Networks and 36 million registered users on the Ning Platform. Ning Virtual Gifts offers the first built-in revenue-generating feature for Network Creators, enabling them to create custom gifts and gift stores relevant to the topic of their Ning Network.

For members of Ning Networks, Ning Virtual Gifts brings another way to build and strengthen relationships and meet new people around shared interests. To kick off gift giving, each Ning user will receive 100 credits in their gift store account, giving them the opportunity to send at least one virtual gift to a fellow member. Virtual gifts across all Ning Networks will be priced at 75 credits or $1.50 per gift.

"Ning Virtual Gifts brings members new ways to express themselves around the things they care about most," said Jason Rosenthal, senior vice president of Business Operations at Ning. "Our virtual gifts product is unique in that it can be highly relevant to the activity of each Ning Network -- further empowering our Network Creators to capture their members' imagination. With our tremendous growth in the past year, this is a first step in Ning building upon the inherent context in each Ning Network to drive new revenue opportunities for our Network Creators and Ning."

"From giving each other bloody chainsaws to shock troop dog tags, our members are having a blast recognizing each other for their contributions to the Lost Zombies Ning Network," said Scot Leach, Lost Zombies. "Creating custom gifts around our shared love of everything zombie adds a new level of fun and excitement for our members."

All Ning Network Creators will have the ability to create custom virtual gifts, select their unique gift store inventory, and participate in a revenue share on the sale of virtual gifts on their Ning Network. In addition to creating virtual gifts, Network Creators will have the option to mix and match hundreds of pre-populated gifts. Transactions will be processed directly to Ning Network Creators via PayPal. Revenue will be split equally between the Network Creator and Ning after PayPal's transaction fees.

The launch of Ning Virtual Gifts comes as the Ning Platform reaches new heights in its growth. The Ning Platform has increased in size by more than 300 percent in the number of Ning Networks created, registered users and active Ning Networks. Currently, 36 million registered users are interacting with hundreds of thousands of specific interests and passions on Ning Networks. In addition, one million new registered users are joining Ning Networks every 12 days. To date, more than 1.6 million Ning Networks have been created and the number of new ones created has accelerated to more than 5,000 per day, including recent launches of Fran Drescher's Cancer Schmancer Movement, My Gavin Newsom for a better California and Sin by Silence.
