Ninth District Councilwoman Jan Perry to Converse With Town Hall

LOS ANGELES, CA -- (MARKET WIRE) -- April 5, 2007 -- The Honorable Jan C. Perry (D), Councilwoman, Ninth District, City of Los Angeles, will speak with Town Hall Los Angeles on April 17, 2007. Citizens will have the opportunity to voice their questions and concerns about the district's most critical issues.

Perry's 9th District encompasses the Downtown and South Los Angeles areas, including Skid Row. She has referred to the homeless situation in her area as "a national disgrace" elaborating that, "it's time we took a hard look at the growing crisis and begin to organize ourselves at all levels of government to do a far better job."

Perry was first elected to the City Council in 2001. She currently serves as Chair of the Energy and the Environment Committee; Chair of the Ad Hoc Homeless Committee; Vice-Chair of the Arts, Parks, Health, and Aging Committee; Vice-Chair of the Ad Hoc Committee on Recovering Energy, Natural Resources, and Economic Benefit from Waste for LA (RENEW LA) Committee, and as a member of the Housing, Community and Economic Development Committee, Ad Hoc Los Angeles River and Ad-Hoc Stadium Committees.

While releasing the public draft of the Los Angeles River Revitalization Master Plan in February 2007, Perry said, "The LA River is one of our City's most under utilized assets; it has the potential of developing into a major center for recreation and for increased green space."

Throughout its history, Town Hall has convened events centered around the community and local politics. In 2006, Town Hall welcomed LAPD Chief William Bratton, LAEDC Chief Economist Jack Kyser and convened a panel to discuss ending long-term homelessness moderated by Councilwoman Perry.

For 70 years, Town Hall Los Angeles has been dedicated to promoting civic participation, pride and awareness.
