Nitobi Extends Cross-Platform Mobile Application Development With Support for BlackBerry 6

SAN FRANCISCO,CA--(Marketwire - September 28, 2010) -  BLACKBERRY DEVCON 2010 -- Nitobi Inc., the creators of the PhoneGap (www.phonegap.com) mobile application development framework, today announced that PhoneGap now supports BlackBerry® 6. PhoneGap developers can build cross-platform apps that take advantage of new BlackBerry 6 features including the WebKit browser and enhanced multimedia and social networking functionalities.

Using the open source PhoneGap framework, any web developer familiar with HTML, CSS and JavaScript can write a mobile application once and deploy it across multiple platforms including the BlackBerry® platform. PhoneGap applications take advantage of core device features including: contacts, camera, GPS, accelerometer, and more.

PhoneGap, now with support for BlackBerry 6, is available here: http://github.com/phonegap/phonegap-blackberry-widget.

"PhoneGap is devoted to open standards and providing mobile and web developers with a way to design and build 'write once, run anywhere' mobile apps that are appealing, fun and useful," said Andre Charland, CEO of Nitobi. "The BlackBerry platform and support for BlackBerry 6 represents a real opportunity for our growing developer community."

Since winning the Web 2.0 Expo LaunchPad competition in 2009, PhoneGap has been widely recognized as a game-changer for mobile app development. The open source code has been downloaded more than 300,000 times and thousands of apps built using PhoneGap are available in app stores and directories.
