Nivis Participates in Successful IPSO Interop

Event Focused on Smart Object Interoperability at the Application and Network Layer

ATLANTA, GA--(Marketwire - Aug 28, 2012) - Nivis, a global leader in Smart Grid and Industrial Wireless networks, participated in the successful Internet Protocol for Smart Objects (IPSO) Alliance interop held in conjunction with the 84th IETF meeting in Vancover, British Columbia. Building upon previous events, the latest interop demonstrated Internet of Things interoperability using the latest IPv6 and Web standards for machine-to-machine (M2M) devices and cloud services in connected home, building automation, lighting, and smart energy-related applications.

"The future Internet of Things will consist of interconnected smart objects from different vendors that are capable of exchanging valuable data," stated Robert Assimiti, Nivis Director of Technology and co-chair of the IPSO Interop Committee. "We added another brick to the IoT foundation during this event. The event showcased web-enabled smart objects from multiple vendors exchanging application payloads in an interoperable manner based on the IPSO Application Template."

The IPSO Application Template enabled participants to interact seamlessly between devices located in Canada, Finland, France, Sweden and the U.S. through a cloud-hosted application. Eight IPSO Member companies participated in the interop, including ElectroTest Sweden AB, Ericsson, Nivis, Nokia, Proto6, Sensinode, Sensus, and Watteco.

In June, at the Freescale Technology Forum in San Antonio, TX, Nivis demonstrated its Smart Objects Network Development Kit, which features a standards-based communications stack utilizing 802.15.4g, 802.15.4e, 6LoWPAN, CoAP, UDP and RPL. The Kit utilizes Freescale's MC12311 Sub-GHz transceiver and Freescale's Kinetis™ Series 32bit ARM® Cortex™-M4 Microcontroller with built in Crypto Acceleration. The Kit allows users to build a Smart Objects Network quickly 'out of the box,' integrate it with user hardware and then evaluate network performance in a real environment. Network endpoints can be accessed with a full range of IPv6 commands sent directly to the device from any internet browser.
