No.1 Ranking on Google Gained in 3 Months for Small Business With BT SearchSmart

LONDON, UNITED KINGDOM--(Marketwire - May 20, 2010) - BT SearchSmart today announced that it had helped, one of the leading specialist suppliers in the UK of fine antique writing furniture, gain a no.1 Google ranking for 'antique desks'. began selling online in 1996, and thanks to their long-term web presence, they were used to high search engine rankings for all their main keywords. The market has grown significantly in the past 15 years, and during 2009 they noticed that other non-specialist antique dealers were beginning to take the top positions. By early 2010, had dropped from no.1 for "antique desks" to no.9. They engaged BT SearchSmart which offers a combination of onsite and offsite small business SEO (Search Engine Optimisation) to help them regain their former visibility.

Within months of having engaged BT SearchSmart their Google ranking for "antique desks" improved from no.8-9 to no.1 after 3 months of intensive work. Search results for other secondary terms relevant to the website have also improved. Visits to the site were up by around 30% and total page viewings were up by roughly the same amount, reflecting the better organisation of content on the site.

Over 500 pages on the site were revised to ensure correct keyword densities and also consistency of use. The file structure of the URLs was revisited and aligned towards the keyword terms that had been identified as paramount.

David Lawrence, Managing Director and Owner of Antique Desks Ltd said, "The advantage of the BT service is that they steer from a distance so that you can make the changes yourself and fully understand what makes a difference. The relatively "hands-off" support by BT and the "hands-on" approach by the website owner, while labour intensive, certainly aids understanding."
