Nomadix Announces Enhanced Bandwidth Provisioning Capabilities for Its Internet Access Gateways

NSE 8.4 Allocates Bandwidth According to Class, Priority or Location; Benefits Hospitality Industry

LOS ANGELES, CA--(Marketwired - Jun 26, 2014) - HITEC, Booth #1327 -- Nomadix, Inc., the innovator and pioneer of public access gateways, has announced enhanced bandwidth provisioning capabilities for its AG 2400, AG 5600 and AG 5800 access gateways, which service Internet connections for guests in a variety of locations, from hotels to convention centers. The updates are part of Nomadix Service Engine (NSE) version 8.4, which will be available in Q3 2014.

Based on a custom implementation of class-based queuing, the provisioning system provides tiered bandwidth management capabilities that allow IT administrators to allocate bandwidth by priority, location or class, such as guest loyalty. This enables hotels and other entities to meet contractual bandwidth obligations with their conference attendees, while still allowing bandwidth to migrate as needed from higher classes to lower classes then back to higher classes as priority traffic increases. Simply put: guests seeking free Internet access are not impacted by high-priority conferences.

"The ability to drill down to specific categories of guests and provision bandwidth accordingly can prove very beneficial for the hospitality industry," said Nomadix Chief Commercial and Operating Officer Fred Reeder. "We're excited about the newest enhancements to our gateway products, which will give hotels and other entities greater control over their bandwidth and keep their guests happy."

Specific 8.4 features include:

  • Class-based queuing for priority-based bandwidth management.
  • Destination-based WAN selection allows routing traffic through a specific ISP that may be favorable and/or required for certain communications such as to lower costs, provide higher bandwidth or meet regional requirements.
  • Gratuitous Address Resolution Protocol (ARP) support allows networks to continue processing traffic in the event of a system failover.
  • HTTP redirection now includes the user IP parameter to ease development of customized guest portals.
  • DHCP updates are now fully configurable without the requirement of a reboot and can now be enabled or disabled for specific VLANs.

Designed for smaller properties, such as hotels with up to 150 rooms, the AG 2400 gateway enables the deployment of wired or wireless networks supporting up to 300 simultaneous mobile devices. The AG 5600 and AG 5800 gateways serve larger properties with up to 2,000 and 4,000 simultaneous users, respectively.

NSE 8.4 will be available in Q3 2014. For more information including pricing, please contact Nomadix at +1.818.597.1500 or visit www.nomadix.com.
