Nomadix Rolls-Out New Internet Gateway Enhancements to Address Bandwidth Challenges of Public Access Networks

Hospitality Industry Sees Continued Rise in Internet Traffic, Nomadix Responds With New 8.6 Service Engine

AGOURA HILLS, CA--(Marketwired - Feb 17, 2016) - Nomadix, Inc., the innovator and pioneer of public Internet gateways, has announced Nomadix Service Engine (NSE) version 8.6 for its AG 2400, AG 5600, AG 5800 and AG 5900 gateways. Designed for guest networks -- including those found in the hospitality market and other industries that support a continuous stream of visitors wanting to access the Internet -- Nomadix gateways extend a wired or Wi-Fi network to create a public Internet network.

With travelers carrying multiple devices -- all of which require access to the network -- today's guest network operators face an unprecedented demand for bandwidth. This demand necessitates the need for a reliable, scalable solution to manage visitor network bandwidth resources. Properties also need a solution that can help them prioritize usage by group -- enabling them to give priority access to business customers or other notable categories of guests.

Nomadix has its pulse on the hospitality market and its unique bandwidth management challenges. With the release of version 8.6, the long-time gateway provider once again reinforces its commitment, investing in new capabilities that properties demand -- all to ensure that hoteliers can provide the best Internet experience possible to their guests.

"In providing visitor Internet connectivity, it's all about making sure guests' needs are met -- and providing a fast, seamless Internet experience plays a big part in that," said Nomadix Chief Commercial and Operating Officer Fred Reeder. "Our job is to listen to our customers and nimbly adapt our technology based on the feedback we receive -- to give operators the tools they need to create that positive experience. The latest version of our software does just that."

New capabilities provided in version 8.6 include:

  • Bandwidth Management - the Quality of Service (QoS) feature has been expanded to include support for Layer 3 Differentiated Services Code Point (DSCP) marking along with existing Layer 2 802.1p support. This provides hotels and other entities with increased visibility of the end-user's online behavior, thus improving the ability to manage bandwidth.
  • Billing & Monetization - an XML command can now be accepted / rejected on the basis of username / password, to allow for expanded lists of XML servers beyond the 4 static IP addresses. With this change, portal scripting can now utilize multiple servers, i.e., credential-based authentication instead of static IP. With this change, MSPs have greater flexibility in managing their billing portals.
  • Authentication - in networks that use Radius servers for MAC authentication, a maximum retry limit can now be set for MAC authentication requests. With this change, an IT administrator can configure the number of retries before the gateway stops trying. The end result? A reduction in both bandwidth and resources consumption on the Radius server.
  • Reliability - a new utility to the PMS interface can verify if the PMS port is working. With this enhancement, both the ability to send and receive on the gateway can be validated. This troubleshooting can be done in the field, thereby potentially eliminating the need for costly and time-consuming replacements.
  • Platform - NSE now supports automatic updates for daylight savings time and official IANA (Internet Assigned Numbers Authority) time zones. This change is especially helpful in supporting time-sensitive functions, such as credit card authentication.

Nomadix gateways are designed to meet the needs of any size property. The AG 2400 gateway serves smaller properties, such as hotels with up to 150 rooms, and supports the deployment of wired or wireless networks with up to 500 simultaneous mobile devices. The AG 5600, AG 5800 and AG 5900 gateways serve larger venues with up to 2,000, 4,000 and 8,000 simultaneous devices, respectively.
