North American Partners in Anesthesia's Frank Overdyk Selected by Becker's Healthcare to Prestigious "50 Experts Leading the Field in Patient Safety" List

MELVILLE, NY--(Marketwired - April 08, 2014) - Frank Overdyk, M.D., MSEE, executive director for research, technology and innovation at North American Partners in Anesthesia was recently named by Becker's Healthcare as one of the top 50 experts leading the field of patient safety for 2014. This recognition stems from Dr. Overdyk's commitment to patient safety through his body of work, personal accomplishments and organizational leadership.

Dr. Overdyk's educational and professional experiences have led him to become an expert on inpatient harms resulting from misuse of opiates, particularly where it concerns patient-controlled analgesia practices. Over the course of his career, he has conducted original research and has authored numerous articles in prestigious healthcare publications on patient subgroups most at risk for this adverse event. Additional achievements include organizing the Anesthesia Patient Safety Foundation conference in 2011, at which stakeholders set a "zero tolerance" consensus for opioid harms. The conference was partially responsible for The Joint Commission's 2012 sentinel alert on the subject.

"Patient safety is a paramount object at the core of healthcare," said Dr. Overdyk. "We are constantly striving to build a culture of safety throughout the continuum of care. Through my research and evidence-based initiatives, I hope to continue to enhance patient care and raise awareness of the critical need for solutions regarding the leading safety threats."

Becker's Healthcare 50 Experts Leading the Field of Patient Safety 2014 list includes individuals at healthcare organizations, national organizations, universities and other institutions who are devoted to improving patient safety and quality of care.
